Sustainability at Bergzeit


At Bergzeit, sustainability and mountain sports belong together. To help you make an informed decision when buying new outdoor gear, we have divided our sustainable products into 3 categories, with a focus on social responsibility, ecological responsibility and animal welfare. We firmly believe that every courageous step contributes to a more sustainable future.

People

Products in the People category are produced by manufacturers that provide good living and working conditions for their employees.

Environment

Products in the Environmental category are produced with non-harmful substances and have a significantly lower environmental impact during manufacturing.

Animal 

Products in the Animal category are either totally free of animal components (vegan) or contain animal components that are certified according to sustainable standards.




When it comes to sustainability, we want to be completely transparent. Not only do we feel a great responsibility as a company and as individuals, we also want our customers to feel confident when shopping for sustainable outdoor products.  Under the Sustainable Features section of a product, you can view its official sustainability certificates and more information about the standards that have been met.


Sustainability Focus: People

Fair Wear Foundation

As an independent organisation, the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) reviews working conditions in companies of the textile industry and aims to improve them worldwide.

If at least 95% of the suppliers' workplaces meet the necessary standards after rigorous inspections, the manufacturer is awarded 'Leader' status and they are listed in our People category.

Fair Trade Certified

The aim of the non-profit organisation is to promote and ensure fair working conditions and to safeguard the livelihood of workers. They are also committed to protecting the environment.

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)

GOTS aims to establish strict ecological guidelines throughout the entire textile production process and to ensure social standards for workers.

Grüner Knopf

Grüner Knopf stands for socially and ecologically sustainably produced textiles and is awarded on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Prior to the award, an investigation of the companies in the areas of human rights & environmental protection as well as their supply chains is carried out.
